You probably have your favorite handful of playgrounds and parks that you frequent. My kids have even given a name to each one - wishing well park, pirate ship playground, green playground, and so on.
As you stare down 12 weeks of summer and kids with boundless energy that even hours of outside play can't tire, expand your playground repertoire and find some new playgrounds and parks to explore.
Find a park or playground
We were told about KaBOOM by the St. Louis Motherhood Examiner and I'm an instant fan.
KaBOOM is working on assembling a database of playgrounds and parks nationwide. Many cities are well represented with large lists of play areas. What's even cooler is parents can enter reviews of the playgrounds and parks. Parents can let other parents know if a park has overly friendly geese, a playground has plenty of shade, or if walking trails are stroller friendly.
If you're heading out on a family vacation this summer, look up parks and playgrounds near your destination so you're all set to play.
If your favorite park or playground is not listed, add it. KaBOOM is on a mission to add 100,000 playspaces in 100 days. Add yours and help them reach their goal.
More than playgrounds
As if the listing of play spaces isn't cool enough, KaBOOM does more. They are a non profit organization dedicated to making sure that children get enough outside playtime. They have some great information on their site supporting why play is important, why recess is necessary, and how to encourage more outside time for children. You can join a team to help build a playspace in your community, or start your own team. It all supports the KaBOOM vision, "a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America..
