Injuries have been a real issue this season and we aren't even a fourth of the way through yet. One of the most serious injuries yet happened on Saturday, as Cam Ward was cut severely in the leg during Saturday's game against Columbus. It was one of those ugly, unpleasant scenes that always stem from such injuries, and Ward had to go to the hospital with his wound. From what I've read, he might be out for quite some time.
So basically, a bad start to the season for the Hurricanes just got worse. Eric Staal and Ray Whitney both missed yesterday's game as well. Those are their two top forwards, and Ward is pretty much the most important player for that team. When they went to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, he was one of the main reasons why. Last season, the Canes were the surprise team that everything went right for. This season, everything is going wrong. If things don't turn around soon, and if this Ward injury is as serious as it is speculated to be, you could be looking at the worst team in the NHL, especially with Toronto playing better now with Phil Kessel healthy and Jonas Gustavsson between the pipes.
Of course, the most important thing is that Cam Ward heals up as quickly as possible.
