With the 2008 Olympic Games less than three weeks away, I wanted to take a minute to give a quick shout out to all the Colorado athletes competing in Beijing. With the exception of Carmelo Anthony and Pablo Mastroeni, most of these folks aren’t household names, and they certainly aren’t commanding multi-million dollar salaries. But they are all amongst the finest athletes in the world.

And if you ask me, Colorado athletes have several natural advantages working for them.

Colorado athletes live and train at high altitude, which means they won’t be phased by the lack of oxygen in Beijing’s "air"
Colorado athletes hail from the fittest state in the nation. They are less likely to be obese than athletes from other states. Of course, on a global level, this merely cancels out the fact that they live in the world’s most overweight country.
Winners at the Olympics receive medals made of gold. Colorado was home to one of this country’s biggest gold rushes in 1859. Res ipsa loquitur.

See? As I just scientifically proved, all signs point to great success for Colorado Olympians in 2008. I can’t wait!
