A Colorado sports nut for life, Erin Hickey takes his obsession to a new level with the best seat in the house, covering local hoops, hockey, the Rox and everything in-between scene.
With the UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament off to a bang (expecially today's Netherlands v Italy match) I feel it's a good time to remind everyone that we play the game in this country too (it's called soccer). In fact, we have our very own professional team right here in Denver....
And in case you haven't been paying attention, the Colorado Rapids are playing some decent soccer this year and are in third place in the West. Sure, the level of play might lag a bit behind what you'll see during Euro 2008 this month, but if you're a fan of the game, I think you'll enjoy watching the Rapids. They've actually been pretty fun to follow this year (if not a little frustrating, due to their inability to win consecutive matches.) Through 11 matches the Rapids are 5-6-0 (4-2-0 at home, 1-4-0 on the road), and they've tallied 18 goals on the year - third best in the league.
Of course, the best way to experience a match is at the new and superbly constructed Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Check out the list below for the Rapids remaining home games, and enjoy the beautiful game!

I’ve been playing fantasy football since the early 2000s, and it has brought much joy into my life. But I must admit that I’ve never been very adventurous in choosing a provider. When it comes to fantasy sports, I’ve been a Yahoo! guy... Read More Topics:

Aside from the pointless one-hour tape delays and the even more pointless Mary Carillo and Cris Collinsworth, I've really enjoyed the Beijing Olympics so far. However, I'm still struggling to find accurate TV listing information and good coverage... Read More Topics:

I was going to rant about how disrespected I feel by NBC giving us Mountain Staters a tape-delayed Olympic Games. But the folks at Yahoo! Sports are already all over it, and it’s probably better than anything I can come up with this early in the... Read More Topics:

According to Rivals.com, the Buffs are the 34th best team in college football entering the 2008 season. I think preseason rankings are rather pointless, but they're fun to look at... and they remind us just how close we are to football season!The... Read More Topics:
