A Colorado sports nut for life, Erin Hickey takes his obsession to a new level with the best seat in the house, covering local hoops, hockey, the Rox and everything in-between scene.
Don't look now, but the Rockies have themselves a winning streak. That's right, two in a row! And they've climbed their way to the league's second worst record.
All sarcasm aside, the Rockies do deserve some credit for the way they've won these last two games against the Dodgers - with dominating pitching (and a little brawling to get the guys fired up). Imagine that. In fact, both games were certifiable pitcher's duels - with Francis managing a shutout (!) on Tuesday, and Cook following up on Wednesday with eight innings of one-run, six-strikeout baseball, paired with a perfect ninth inning from Fuentes.
Of course, this is what the Rockies expect of their aces. There's no cause to celebrate until the rest of the rotation gets on track. The next two games will give us a better read on whether the Rockies really have a chance to turn things around. A struggling Ubaldo Jimenez pitches on Friday, and the inconsistent, yet promising rookie, Greg Reynolds, gets the start on Saturday. If one or both of these guys can muster a win and start to gain some confidence, then maybe, just maybe, the Roxs will have reason think twice before breaking up the team and starting the rebuilding process.
Score: Rockies 2, Dodgers 1 Highlights: SP Aaron Cook tallied his eighth win of the season. The Rockies record when Cook pitches: 9-4; when anyone else pitches: 13-34. Next Game: Friday June 6 vs Milwaukee. Ubaldo Jimenez vs Ben Sheets. 7:05pm, Coors Field Current Record: 22-38
