2008 NBA Draft - Nuggets Staying Home

With a solid first round draft class, the Nuggets had a shot at several decent players this year. But what did they do with their 20th (and only) pick of the draft? Traded it to the Charlotte Bobcats for a future first-round pick. BORING. That makes it two straight years without a draft pick for the Nuggs. I was really looking forward to the possibility of a Mario Chalmers or Robin Lopez or Roy Hibbert heading to the mile-high city. Now it looks like Hibbert will end up with Charlotte - a move that will afford them the luxury of moving Emeka Okafor to the 4-spot.

Oh well, it's probably a smart move for the Nuggs. Maybe the Bobcats will continue to struggle and the Nuggets will end up with a much higher pick down the line. And, of course, it saves them from paying their 20th pick a guaranteed sum of up to $1.28 million. Although Nuggets vice president of basketball operations, Mark Warkentien, denies that money has anything to do with the draft-day trade.
