Lots of action in Nuggets-land lately…. Here’s a recap of recent events.
Good news – Allen Iverson is sticking around for another year. The Nuggets won’t have to worry about the offensive end of the court.
Bad news – At $20.84 million, Iverson’s 2008-2009 salary is sure to be the cause of many sleepless nights for Kroenke and company as they wrestle with their extreme lack of cap room.
Good news – Carmelo Anthony made the Olympic team. Sure, it was a forgone conclusion, but it’s still an honor. And it’s got to be exciting for Melo to be part of the resurgence of USA basketball. The full roster includes: Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets) Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz) Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors) Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers) Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks) Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets) Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons) Michael Redd (Milwaukee Bucks) Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat) Deron Williams (Utah Jazz)
Bad news – Carmelo Anthony will miss the first two games of the 2008-2009 NBA season. The Nuggets suspended Melo in response to his April DUI arrest.
Good news – Melo’s agent, Calvin Andrews, says that team officials assured him Melo won’t be dealt this year. Nevertheless, Carmelo is trying to put the trade rumors to bed, once-and-for-all by calling out Nuggets management.
Bad news – The Melo trade rumors continue to swirl. Most recently, ESPN.com reported that the Pistons and Nuggs were discussing a possible deal involving Chauncey Billups and Melo. Reportedly, Detroit offered Billups and Tayshaun Prince for Carmelo, but the Nuggets said no.
