![]() The boys of Rocktober certainly don't look like the team that won 21 of 22 games to get to the World Series last year. But the roster is basically the same. So what gives? I'd say that they're not as bad as their 2008 record suggests, though they're probably not as good as their 2007 finish, either. Luckily they have literally thousands of games left this season (ok, 127, but still...) and I think they have time to turn it around. It may be tough to repeat as NL champs, but the playoffs are certainly within reach. Here's what the Roxs have going for them: - They still have a great offensive lineup. Yes, right now, they're batting near the middle of the league in most categories, but that's bound to improve. Holliday, Helton, Hawpe, Atkins and company are simply too good not to start scoring more runs. - They got a big come-from-behind win against the Cardinals on Wednesday night that brought back some of the Rocktober magic and propelled the Rockies to a second straight victory on Thursday. Maybe they can finally start to get things rolling. - They have the power of the mustache. Ryan Spilborghs is currently sporting perhaps the most glorious facial hair I have ever seen. In fact, it is worthy of its very own blog entry, which I promise to post as soon as I find some photos. If you have any, please send them to me and I will begin putting together a gallery. |
