Disturbing the peace

Troubled ex-Broncos punter Todd Sauerbrun pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace today. The case originated last December when Sauerbrun allegedly consumed a few too many adult beverages and proceeded to smack a cabbie in the back of the head while using "vulgar" language and refusing to pay the cab fare. Sauerbrun originally pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and disturbing the peace in February, so I'm guessing that his memory may have been clouded then by some combination of ephedra and steroids.

As punishment, Sauerbrun received a one-year probationary sentence (unsupervised) and was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service.

Don't worry, Todd. You're certainly not the first athlete to have embarrassed himself over off-the-field antics here in Colorado. I bet Carmelo Anthony could tell you some good stories. After all, he was hit with a DUI charge and a speeding ticket in a single three-week span this spring. Remember Dan Issel's final days with the Nuggets? He lost his cool and screamed a derogatory remark at a heckling fan (which was caught on tape). The team immediately suspended him four games, and he resigned a few weeks later. I'm sure Kobe Bryant wishes he (and the fans) could forget about his encounter with young Katelyn Faber in Eagle, CO in 2003. And, finally, there's UNC's Mitch Kozad (a fellow punter, Todd!), who decided his best chance at winning the starting job was to stab his teammate in the leg.

See, Todd? You're not alone. And you're not even the craziest of the bunch. And it's not like you have to worry about legal expenses because you make millions of dollars a year. So party on!
