Cubs fans already reserving World Series tickets. Worst idea ever?

Hey Rockies fans. Remember how excited you were last fall when you realized you'd have a chance to see a World Series game at Coors Field? Remember how devastated you were after the ticketing servers exploded and you realized you'd have to settle for the TV broadcast, or that your dreams of turning a quick $5,000 profit were dashed?

Yes, it was quite a debacle. But I'm afraid it will pale in comparison to the disaster that awaits Cubs fans.

The AP reported on Monday that some confident Cubs fans are already shelling out big money to reserve the right to purchase 2008 World Series tickets at Wrigley Field. Wow. Those guys are going to be pretty mad when they remember that they're Cubs fans, and that their team is completely and everlastingly cursed.

Cubs fans haven't seen their team in a World Series since 1945. They haven't celebrated a World Series victory since 1908! They saw their most recent chance derailed by a single swipe of Steve Bartman's right arm in 2003. But they think it's wise to start lining up for 2008 tickets in July??!! Best case, the Cubs make it to the World Series and lose in four games. Worst case, these impatient fans jinx their team so bad that they suffer the greatest collapse in baseball history, failing to make the playoffs and setting off a chain of events that begins with a free-agent exodus and ends with a smoldering Wrigley Field, zombies and a large-scale National Guard deployment.
