Buffs finally take the field again

September 18, 3:28 PM
by Erin Hickey, Denver Sports Examiner

I’m not sure how many days make up an eternity, but I’m guessing 12 must be pretty close…. That’s how long it’s been since CU last played a football game. And unless you were at Folsom Field to watch the Buffs take on Eastern Washington way back on September 6th, you haven’t seen them play since the last TV broadcast 18 days ago! That's got to be closing in on two eternities.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the major events that have taken place since then:

  • The Republicans held their national convention
  • Hurricane Gustav hit the Gulf Coast
  • Serena Williams and Roger Federer won the U.S. Open
  • The U.S. government bailed out mortgage firms Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae
  • Lance Armstrong announced a Tour de France comeback
  • Hurricane Ike hit Texas
  • The U.S. economy went down in flames
  • The Rockies lost a bunch
  • The Broncos beat the Chargers on a botched no-call and a miracle 2-point conversion

Luckily for CU fans, the wait is finally over. They’ll get to see their Buffs take center stage on ESPN’s national broadcast tonight, when they battle #21 West Virginia. It’ll be the first real test of a CU team looking to become relevant again in the Big 12 conference. Will the no-huddle offense hold up? Will the defense be able to contain Pat White, Noel Divine and company?

Find out tonight… 6:30pm, ESPN.

A Buffalo stampede tramples the Rams at Invesco

September 1, 9:05 AM
Barack Obama must have dropped his playbook somewhere near the Buffaloes' sideline after his speech on Thursday. Because yesterday, in what may have been the last Rocky Mountain Showdown ever played at INVESCO Field, CU gave its fans high hopes... Read More

Three questions about today's "Showdown"

August 31, 10:17 AM
http://www.denversports.org/ 1. Will this be the last CU/CSU game ever played at Invesco? CU gets the game at Folsom Field in 2009, and CSU hosts it at Hughes Stadium in 2010. After that, who knows? Negotiations are in the works for future showdowns,... Read More

Where to find the best Olympics coverage online

August 14, 8:57 AM
Aside from the pointless one-hour tape delays and the even more pointless Mary Carillo and Cris Collinsworth, I've really enjoyed the Beijing Olympics so far. However, I'm still struggling to find accurate TV listing information and good coverage... Read More

August 4, 9:01 AM
According to Rivals.com, the Buffs are the 34th best team in college football entering the 2008 season. I think preseason rankings are rather pointless, but they're fun to look at... and they remind us just how close we are to football season!The... Read More

Rockies no longer writing off the season?

July 25, 11:04 AM
I found an interesting article on FoxSports.com this morning. It suggests that if the Rox stay hot during their upcoming road trip (3 games at Cincinnati, 3 at Pittsburgh and 4 at Florida), they may switch from sell to buy mode.Yep, thanks... Read More

Things looking good for Colorado Olympians

July 21, 7:37 AM
With the 2008 Olympic Games less than three weeks away, I wanted to take a minute to give a quick shout out to all the Colorado athletes competing in Beijing. With the exception of Carmelo Anthony and Pablo Mastroeni, most of these folks aren’t... Read More
