The Braves aren't just playing their best stretch of baseball this year; they're probably playing their best stretch of baseball for the last two years. Atlanta has gone on a torrid 14-2 run that has them knocking on the wild card door. With seven games left they find themselves 2.5 games behind the Rockies - and the Braves have a favorable schedule the rest of the way - so the question remains, how many games will Colorado lose?
The Rockies have six games left, three apiece with the Brewers and Dodgers. For the Braves to have a shot, they would need Colorado to go at best 3-3 over that stretch of games.
The good news is that for the final three games of the season, Colorado will be on the road against a tough Dodgers team. In those games LA will trott out a trio of quality starters in Randy Wolf, Hiroki Kuroda and Clayton Kershaw.
The bad news is the Brewers won't be trotting out stud pitcher Yovani Gallardo - he's done for the season. Instead the Rockies will face the unproven Chris Narveson, the inconsistent Manny Parra and a struggling Jeff Suppan. The Brewers need to play spoiler to give Atlanta any realistic playoff shot.
Regardless of what happens it's nice to be playoff relevent once again, hopefully the Brewers and Dodgers can lend a helping hand.
