Plenty of quilting classes! That is what you will find at Catalina Quilting, recently reopened at a new easy to find location on 1st Ave and Tangerine in Oro Valley.

The new shop was set-up on September 1, without benefit of air conditioning. But this hard work payed off, and a grand opening was hosted on October 24, featuring register drawings for discount "jewels," demonstrations and pattern giveaways by Judy Carlson, and author Patrick Lose  to launch Party with Patrick, a calendar themed recipe and table runner project club.

Three new quilt teachers have joined Catalina Quilting, in addition to five original teachers. An art quilt club hosted by Eileen Bonk of  EB Designs was created in response to customer requests. Sunflower Hill (shown below), a six part block-of-the-month class, was already sold out by grand opening day (but don't worry, there might be another one coming soon). Before you choose your holiday quilt project, take time to see Night Pines Christmas , a wintry black and white foundation pieced wall hanging. There is also a class that supports Tucson based cancer charity Quilt for a Cause, featuring a pattern from Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame inductee Evelyn George, with 100% of these sales donated to Quilt for a Cause.

The most popular items at the new Catalina Quilting are southwest fabrics. Southwest flannels are also available, and there are flannel fat quarters too. The shop also offers plenty of SW patterns from six Arizona designers.

Catalina Quilting's website is still under construction, so online shopping is not available right now. But you can access the newsletter with classes schedule on the website. Catalina Quilting is also a drop off shop for Project Linus. A special feature of this shop: 20% discount on your birthday!
