The following article is a continuation of Part 1 ‘20 strategies for getting pregnant’

Medical professionals and women who have conceived offer the remaining 10 tips for getting pregnant.

11. Missionary position. Studies suggest the missionary position allows for deepest penetration, thus releasing sperm closer to the opening of the cervix.

12. Fertili ‘Tea’ with vitex. This tea is known to stimulate hormones involved in ovulation and help restore hormonal balance. It is useful in normalizing pituitary gland functions and the balance of progesterone and estrogen levels. The makers say the effectiveness of vitex found in Fertili-tea increases over time with regular consumption.

13. Intercourse at least every other day. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, a major study found no difference in pregnancy rates between couples who had sex daily vs. those who had it every other day. Although additional research elsewhere suggests having intercourse every day during a woman’s most fertile time of the month which generally occurs days 10-16 of a woman’s menstrual cycle definitely increases the odds of conception. Some studies even suggest morning sex offers a better conception rate.

14. Post coital position. Women should relax on their back after intercourse with their hips upward in the doctor recommended position for 15 minutes allowing sperm easier access through the cervix. Post coital pillows are available on-line and can be used afterwards as a great breast-feeding pillow.

15. Ovulation predictor kits. Purchase a digital ovulation predictor kit which will help determine ovulation. Time sexual intercourse during that fertile time. The window of opportunity usually lasts 24-36 hours once ovulation begins. Also, become familiar with ovulation cramps known as Mittelschermz cramps that signal ovulation.

16. Try yoga. Not only does yoga tone, align and strengthen the body, it will also prepare and relax the body for conception as well as all three stages of pregnancy and the birth itself.

17. Avoid artificial sweeteners. According to Russell Blaylock M.D., products containing Aspartame of any form should be avoided. There is evidence the sweetener can impair your genetic structure, increase cancer risk and be toxic to your nervous system. Methanol, the toxin present in Aspartame, belongs to the same class of poisons as Cyanide and Arsenic. Although the FDA claims it safe, steering clear altogether is the best bet.

18. Hot baths. Studies indicate they may paralyze or hinder sperm. Cool surroundings offer the highest sperm and motility count.

19. Avoid scrotum pressure. Tight clothing that places too much pressure on the scrotum may adversely affect sperm. According to Dr. M.J. Minkin, a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine, boxers allow the testicles to hang loose, keep cool and function optimally.

20. Cleaning products. The toxins and chemicals in many household cleaning products may hinder conception or cause birth defects. Opt for organic cleansers instead.

In addition to the above suggestions and short of going the in vitro fertilization route, there may be affordable help in the form of a medical prescription known as Clomid. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for this med. Taken orally on days 3 to 7 or 5 to 9 of your menstrual cycle, Clomid signals the pituitary gland to begin secreting more FSH and LH hormones. At this signal, the ovaries will typically begin to mature and release eggs, thus increasing the chance of conception.
