Viggo Mortenson might wield a sword again in The Hobbit
Viggo Mortenson might wield a sword again in The Hobbit
(New Line)

The actor formerly known as Strider/Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings franchise recently told Movieweb that he's willing to return to Middle Earth to grab a piece of the two new films, both centered around J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.  More than that, Mortenson actually said that the filmmakers were looking for a means of having many of the original cast members return in some way.

Thus asks the age-old question: Why?  For those who are unfamiliar (and I believe they are few and far between these days), The Hobbit takes place many years prior to the events of Lord of the Rings, and contains a sparse few of the characters from the trilogy.  Many characters, including Viggo Mortenson's Aragorn, may have not even been born yet.

What good would it do to insert characters who have no business being even brought up into this story?
