One of the most anxiously awaited announcements in the local craft beer community is expected soon, with the unveiling of Black Star Co-op's brewpub and restaurant location scheduled for Saturday, November 14th from 1-4 pm. This special event will feature brief presentations from members of Black Star Co-op's Workers’ Assembly and Board of Directors, a viewing of the property, discussion of conceptual designs, to be followed by a brief Beer Social. The location will be announced a few days prior to the unveiling.
Black Star Co-op is a co-operative business based in Austin, TX, working to open world’s first cooperatively-owned and worker self-managed brewpub in the early Summer of 2010. With a diverse membership of more than 1,200 members and growing, the Co-op’s mission is to apply the principles of co-operative ownership and worker self-management to create the best venue in Austin for the production and enjoyment of high quality beer.
Members of Black Star Co-op actually own the business - each member holds one membership share, and all members have equal voting power. Each membership share costs $85, and there is a one-time joining fee of $15. Members can get started at just $25 and make payments, and couples can join together and pay a single joining fee. All members that join before the opening will be recognized as charter members.
