Austin welcomes Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery at beer and food pairings at two local venues this week. In addition to being an award-winning brewer, Garrett Oliver is also the author of "The Brewmaster’s Table: Discovering the Pleasures of Real Beer with Real Food ". He has hosted hundreds of beer tastings and dinners, writes regularly for beer and food-related periodicals, and is internationally recognized as an expert on traditional beer styles and their affinity with good food. Austinites have two opportunities to enjoy his beer and food pairings:

What could the super secret Brooklyn offering be? No sign of the Brooklyn Oktoberfest, which was featured at last Saturday's Oktoberfest Beer Tasting.
For more information on these events and Garrett’s beer and food expertise, check out coverage at Jennie Chen’s MisoHungry Makes It with Moonshine. On a side note - if Jennie looks familiar, it is because she can often be spotted at local craft beer establishments such as The Ginger Man Austin and Black Star Co-op beer socials handing out tasty treats baked with beer. My top favorites are the Drunken German Chocolate Cupcakes and Drunken Lamingtons, more desserts made with (512) Pecan Porter.
Between his Austin appearances Garrett will be traveling to Houston to host the Friday night Fred tasting and speak at the milliconference for the Dixie Cup Homebrew Competition. The Dixie Cup is one of the final Qualifying Events for The Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing and is the final competition in the series that determines the Lone Star Circuit Homebrewer of the Year, the Lone Star Circuit Homebrew Team of the Year, and the Lone Star Circuit Homebrew Club of the Year.
