Some time ago there was this woman from the US that said she had trouble sleeping and not just going to sleep but staying asleep as well as waking to find that she felt like she had not even slept at all. She went on to state that she had a few friends that had visited a Buddhist monastery and learned to meditate. She said that the two friends came back home and from that day on had the best sleep in their lives and never again had any sleep problems. Now this is a true story but what did the two ladies find that caused their lives to change so much? The answer is they found peace of mind. With the meditation they had learned from the monks they were able to control their thoughts and calm their minds, when a mind becomes calm the body follows along.

Insomnia means having trouble going to sleep, and there are herbs that will sooth you to sleep as well as give you such a restful sleep that you do not wake up in the night, and awaken feeling refreshed and rested. Although there are many factors that could be contributing to the person having trouble sleeping, such as feng shui in the room is way off. There are these herbs you can use called chamomile, Jasmine, Valerian root, Kava kava root, and passion flower. There is also a brand of herbal drink called Sleepytime Extra that you can get in your local grocery store that has some of these listed herbs as well as some others in it, one of this drinks main ingredients is Valerian root.

Using the listed herbs above you can simply make an infusion by pouring boiling water over the dried herb in a cup or pot and steeping for 5-8 minutes. Drink this infusion 30-60 minutes before bedtime making sure not to have a full bladder when you lay down. When you feel the herb starting to take effect, lay down without a thought in your head and drift off to sleep. The herb will give your body a rest and you should sleep through the night and awaken more rested. Sometimes you may need to use the herb throughout the week in order to have it take a 100% effect on you because some people’s stamina is a lot higher than others. These herbs are safe for the whole family and can be used all the time with no worried of side effects. Please do not use these herbal mild sedatives with actual sleeping drugs.

One side note to be aware of, Valerian root is known as a medicinal herb and over used can cause adverse effects instead of the positive effects you will see the opposite. Overuse constitutes using the herb throughout the day and like it’s just a general pleasant beverage. One cup before bedtime should do the trick. Another side note, the herbs Valerian root, and kava kava can also be found in capsule form and are just as useful. All of the listed herbs can be found in liquid extracts and can be put in a pleasant drink for use. Good sleeping!
