Breaking 100, 90, 80 by Golf Digest and Scott Smith, Editor, is about golfers scoring less strokes than 100, 90, 80. In addition to the cover’s, dynamic golf ball and sand photo, this hardcover book’s, 276 pages have insightful text and wonderful pictures. Although this book covers just about all golf techniques; it does not give fun insight into ball washers and ball markers. This Golf Digest book is an excellent, reference source for amateur golfers; amateurs are the golfers who would be concerned with breaking 100, 90 and 80. Accordingly, one round handicaps for 100, 90 and 80 are +28, +18 and +8, respectively. (Actually, since 99% of golfers play more than one round, golfers would calculate their handicaps by getting the total score of all their rounds; then dividing the total score number by the number of rounds they played. Then, they would subtract the resulting number from “72”. Seventy-two is the usual, par number for official, 18 holes courses.)
On each chapter’s, title page (There are a total of ten chapters.), there are colorful photos featuring professional golfers. I recognized Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Fred Couples and Tom Watson. Besides photos, each chapter has instruction in the forms of text and illustrations.
Chapters one to three cover driving accuracy and distance. Chapter four covers the long game from the fairway. Chapters five to six cover the short game of pitch and chip shots. Chapter seven gives instructions on putting technique. Chapters eight and nine will advise golfers concerning hazards and “rough” areas. Finally, chapter ten gives essential information on maintaining strength and flexibility.
Like Golf Digest magazine, this cellulose production by the Golf Digest staff and Scott Smith, Editor, is excellent and comprehensive. Amateur reader golfers and amateur golfers who are readers who wish to improve their scores will be delighted with Breaking 100, 90, 80. I suggest that golfers do not incur a penalty by not reading this book.
