At the Darlington Apple Festival, you will find apples, apples, and more apples. Apple pie, apple dumplings, apple fritters, apple turnovers, apple butter. How many ways are there to prepare the venerable apple?

Perhaps the best way to find out is to attend!  The Darlington Apple Festival is this Saturday, Oct 3, from 10 to 5.

What started out 23 years ago as a small fair to support the local churches has grown into a colossus. 60,000 people will descend on the town to enjoy the aforementioned apples, but also the offerings of over 200 vendors of arts and crafts, jewelry, clothing, burgers, pit beef and crab soup. There will also be hay rides, face painting, a petting zoo, a moon bounce and other children’s activities, pumpkins, mums, and continuous live entertainment.

Do you claim to bake the best apple pie on the East Coast? Put it to the test. Show up at 9 and enter the apple pie contest!

The festival is the big event of the year in Darlington, but it remains loyal to its original mission of supporting local churches, charities and non-profits.

Best of all, admission is free.

So come to Darlington Saturday, and see if you can find some applesauce, apple bisque, apple crisp, apple cookies, apple muffins, apple omelets, apple scampi…
