NORTH AMERICA

In New Orleans, the federal government purchased ten billboards in an attempt to raise the awareness of human trafficking in the area.  In LA, an indonesian woman was awarded $768,000 including 500,000 punitive damages. This was the first verdict awareded to a human trafficking victim under the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

The department of States announced the G/TIP FY 2010 International Programs to Combat Trafficking in Persons , which will becom a great funding opportunity for the human trafficking advocates in the near future.

 Three Lousianan individuals are setenced for transporting illegal ailents.

LATIN AMERICA

In Guatemala, despite of newly adopted anti-human trafficking law, the state's crackdown on human trafficking effort has not been successful. Also, the country only has 10 agents to fight against human trafficking on the nationwide.

EUROPE

In Netherlands, a nun travels to Ghana to raise the awareness of human trafficking. In Ghana, many women are involved in prostitution as a means of financial gain to support their children. The nun therefore informed the prostitutes in Ghana of alternate means to earn wages to support their children.  

The UN chief addresesd the poor migrant asylum record in Greece. According to a human rights group in Greece,  '120,000 will be picked up after having covertly entering Greece in 2008, a 500 per cent increase on 2003.'

In London, a 43 years old sportsman appeared in the court facing charges of human trafficking and raping 11 years old girl.

ASIA

In Saudi Arabia, a 22 years old man is beheaded and cruxified for raping a three years old child. The state imposes a harsh sanction on the child rapist in hope of deterring child rape in the country.

AFRICA

In Egypt, the government is currently reviewing a new legislation implemention to fight against human trafficking. The new legislation will also penalize the rampant human trafficking in the country.

In Mauritania , slavery persists despite of the state's crackdown. 2007 law criminalizing slavery in the west African desert state has failed and proven to be unenforceable. Also, the legislation failed to encourage the victims to come forward. The slavery in Mauritania includes, domestic labor, child labor, human trafficking as well as child marriages.
