Black, green, or white, tea is a natural immune booster. Sugary sodas leech calcium from bones and teeth and add pounds of fat to the abdomen and stomach. Diet sodas and sugar substitutes are unhealthy, adding nothing to a body's nutrient needs. When the body is achy and sore, a special homemade tea may be just what the body is searching for to strengthen the immune system and ease the symptoms that come with the flu.

Black pepper, cloves, and ginger are three spices that can relieve pain and reduce a fever. Cloves and ginger are both antibacterial, while black pepper is an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. Black pepper and cloves increase blood circulation in the body and decrease inflammation. All three spices aid in digesting foods, but only ginger and cloves ease nausea.

Black pepper is also an anti-fungal and has been used for centuries in medicine. It has a phyto-chemical known to calm the nervous system. Used in medicine in the powdered form, it is a very good addition to a homemade tea of ginger and cloves. Ginger has properties that ease sore throats, a common symptom of a cold or flu. Cloves are able to treat a throat infection, getting at the source of the misery.

For adults, mix one-third teaspoon each of the three spices and add one cup of boiling water. Drink the tea while it is still warm for maximum relief of symptoms. For children, use slightly less black pepper for taste. Use a few drops of honey to sweeten, if needed. Honey is a natural antibiotic with many healing properties.

Drink regular tea daily to boost the immune system and drink the homemade tea if you feel a cold or flu coming on. Drink the medicinal tea three times a day for greatest effect.
