All aboard the fun train

Parents looking for fun this weekend may want to consider a train ride with their children.  Here are three to consider.

Essex Steam Train & Riverboat Ride located in Essex, Ct.  Essex is a little over an hour from Stamford and only 40 minutes from Hartford.  They offer steam train rides through the Connecticut countryside.  Looking for romantic dinner plans?  They offer a 4 course dinner on their Dinner Train.  In November, they offer a Day Out with Thomas the Train.  In December, the children travel to the North Pole with Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Steamboat rides are also offered along the Connecticut River.

The Danbury Railway Museum located in Danbury offers kids of all ages hands on fun.  Danbury is an hour from both Stamford and Hartford.  They have train rides, model trains, a library and a gift shop for that perfect holiday surprise.  During October they have Pumpkin Patch Trains to the pumpkin patch where children receive a free pumpkin.  In November they are offering a Movie and Mystery in conjunction with The Danbury Museum and Historical Society.  During December, ride a vintage train to Santa's toyland where children visit Santa and receive a free gift.

Railroad Museum of New England is located in Thomaston, is an hour away from Stamford and less than a half hour from Hartford.  Take a scenic ride through Litchfield Hills County's breathtaking fall foliage along the Naugatuck River and across the Thomaston Dam.  A free pumpkin will be given to each child.  Beginning Thanksgiving weekend, they offer Santa Express Train rides in the afternoon with Santa and Mrs. Claus and all their friendly elves.  At night they offer their Northern Lights Express to Santa's Train Workshop featuring Santa and a special light display inside and outside the train.  Both Santa journeys end at their gift shop.
