
With the whole town abuzz over the artisinal pizza craze, and the Brunz expending his rapidly expiring New York Times air-time (Frank Bruni has will be resigning in August in order to work on his food memoir.) on a roundup of the new generation of pizzerias in NYC and you know that the fad's official and onto its path to oblivion. Although with pizza, I'm willing to venture that it's a trend that's most likely to survive the ebbs and flows of food fashion.
Somewhat bewilderingly, there is one place that routinely escapes food blogosphere's radar, but rest assured not for lack of pizzaiolo prowess, pizza quality, taste or even atmosphere for that matter. Anyone who knows anything about NYC, will fully acknowledge that dumpiness is often a mark of distinction in the restaurantscape..if anything it's a lack of edginess that sets La Pizza Fresca apart from the bevy of newly-minted meccas to artisinal pizza and it's also probably what keeps it off the trend-radar. It's on a quiet Gramercy street, has romantic, high-ceilinged, ambianced interior,
and reasonable prices.
