Does anybody else understand how Tony got Buchanan and Chloe to Renee without Emerson finding out? Emerson was watching them dig the whole time, and it’s not like that van has any privacy. All I can guess is that Tony has the texting skills of a high school girl who can set up her entire social life in math class via phone without being detected. And what was with Jack making Emerson tell Tony how Christopher Anderson got him out of CTU by purposefully missing his artery when he shot him? Was Jack trying to subtly let Tony know that was why Renee’s eyes kept popping open in fear as they threw dirt on her? And why wasn’t Emerson thinking “Hey, if Jack knows we did that to Tony, maybe that’s what he did to that Renee chick!” I guess that’s why Emerson had to die; he wasn’t smart enough to see what was right in front of his face.

Jack tells the Mutabos that he needs to deliver them to Dubaku so they can stop him from killing more people and Chloe puts transmitters on them. Now, 20 minutes earlier Mrs. Mutabo had pulled open the door when they were being gassed because she didn’t want to die even though her husband told her “This cause is bigger than us.” Suddenly she’s going to let herself be delivered to a mass murderer? I don’t see it. She’s way too into self-preservation. Not that I blame her.

And what made Agent Gedge so very very evil? He stabbed Samantha to death like she was his mother who’d made him wear dresses the first 10 years of his life. And I like that Henry Taylor was able to get unparalyzed enough to choke Gedge and pull them both over the railing, but I’m not happy that Gedge is dead. The other villains are pretty typical and boring and his clean-cut-frat-boy looks remind of those kids in Funny Games. He was extra scary because he was so innocent-looking. And thus far Henry Taylor has appeared mostly sad and frail so it was nice to see him rally. He just might be a force to be reckoned with. I like his wife too. I like that she doesn’t want to give in, even though it’s obvious she’s going to have to if they keep killing people. I like that Tony seems like he could flip back to the dark side any second now, I like that Chloe told the Mutabos “I’m a stay-at-home mom,” and I’ve never really had an older guy thing before but for some reason I am REALLY digging Buchanan. I think it’s the stubble.

I am already bored with all the FBI characters. Even Janis. She’s more whiny than cranky lately and that is just no fun.

But what I’m missing most so far this season is the sense of urgency that 24 is usually pretty good at creating. I guess if the President lets more and more people die it could start to feel a little tenser, but so far I haven’t have a hard time waiting a week to find out what happens next.

How about you?
