The old-time ski areas are gearing up for what they hope is a fantastic 2009-2010 ski season. Small family ski areas used to be the heart and soul of winter skiing in the North Country. Today they are often overshadowed by glitzy ski resorts. This winter, why not trade the chairlift at your usual ski destination and try out a tow rope or t-bar instead. Not only will you save money, you will have a skiing experience you won’t soon forget.

Mount Prospect Ski Tow in Lancaster is about two miles sound of Lancaster village on Route 3. It is now part of Weeks State Park, but there is a sign for the ski tow in the parking lot. The tow rope is used for three runs and has a 250’ vertical height. Make sure you bring all the gear you will need. There aren’t any rentals. Don’t forget your insulated leather work gloves. Regular ski gloves will be ripped to shreds by the rope in no time. Mt. Prospect is planning to sell a limited selection of food and drinks this year for the first time. But, you might want to pack your own just in case. Hours are 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, as well as Wednesdays during school vacation week. A donation of $7 for adults and $5 for children is appreciated.
