Of the numerous artists and DJs who come to mind when talking about the globalization of electronic music, the one man who comes to mind as one of the most international beatmakers goes by the name of Sepalot.
Some have classified his music as "European", however I prefer the more definitive term of "hip-hop-international-soul-extracting-electro-funk". Yes, that's what I said. That's what makes Sepalot so freaking cool! He is unlike any artist out there, bringing an entirely different species of electronic music to the table. He combines two genres which, in the past, would not be caught dead in a room together, and the result is a musical experience far beyond the realms of electronic and hip-hop.
And he doesn't just stop there. Sepalot shares his work with the world, playing live shows in Johannesburg, Sydney, Moscow, Bolivia, Beirut, Cairo, Alexandria....hold on, let me catch my breath...Germany, Lebanon, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, and that's only a handful. His latest albums, Red Handed Remixes (Parts 1 & 2) provide off-the-hook mixes of the original songs from his Red Handed album released in 2008. Sepalot features international figures such as Saigon, Ladi6, MC Blu, Miss Platnum, and Frank'n'Dank, while his remix albums show off the insane mixing skills of artists like LAZRtag, AC Slater, Rob Threezy, and Barletta.
