Darryl Strawberry told reporters today that he would have taken steroids if they were as prevalent in baseball when he played.
Leave it to Darryl, on his first day as a guest instructor with the Mets, to stir the drink..jpg)
Then again, he does have a book coming out. And everyone knows you have to say or do something outrageous to generate sales -- right, Mr. Torre?
"Hell yeah, I would have used [steroids]," Strawberry told reporters at the Mets spring training complex in Florida. "Are you kidding me? Come on."
Darryl, 46, was defending Alex Rodriguez, saying A-Rod had been unfairly singled out.
"I'm not saying that was the right thing to do, but ... if that was going on in the era of the 80s, it definitely probably would have been in my system, too."
Mets fan, Yankee fan -- or any fan, really: You gotta love Darryl. He got his life straightened out, has become a role model for kids.
Now this.
You don't know whether to laugh, cry or shake your head when he adds that he could relate to A-Rod's rationalization for taking steroids:
"I was stupid too when I was 24, 25, 26 years old. I did a lot of stupid things."
So what's his excuse now?
