In a case built purely on circumstantial evidence, a former Marine who claimed he was too fat to murder his former son-in-law was convicted on all counts today by jurors in Hackensack who needed less than two days to reach their decision.
"Ten or 15 years ago, a case like this could never have been considered -- pure circumstantial evidence," Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
But expert investigators in Molinelli's office uncovered computer tracks that Edward Ates tried to cover, including his visits to a site called "How to commit the perfect murder" and those on .22-caliber guns, silencers and lock-picking.CONTINUED.....
