Looking for some kid-friendly Thanksgiving TV shows and specials? Here are some great Thanksgiving TV episodes and specials.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973). Somewhere between It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas comes this lesser known Peanuts holiday special. This Emmy award winning special finds Charlie Brown in a pickle- he’s booked for two Thanksgiving dinners and one of them is at his house! Snoopy dons some pilgrim gear and Linus says a Thanksgiving prayer with the gang, before they sit down for Charlie Brown’s meager offerings of toast, pretzel sticks, popcorn and jelly beans. What kind of feast is that? Luckily all ends well when Charlie Brown’s grandmother tells him he can bring all of his friends to her house for a real Thanksgiving dinner.

The Thanksgiving Treasure (1973). Also known a The Holiday Treasure, this made for TV movie continues the story of Addie Mills from the Christmas special the popular Christmas story, The House Without a Christmas Tree. Starring Lisa Lucas and Jason Robards, it’s about a young girl who befriends a lonely old man at Thanksgiving. This one may be hard to find, but it’s worth a search on your Tivo or DVR this season.

Full House- “The Miracle of Thanksgiving” (1987). This popular sitcom had all sorts of sappy holiday episodes, but the Thanksgiving episode from season one is especially poignant. It’s the family’s first year without their mother, so surrogate dads Jesse and Joey join the Tanner clan for a homemade Thanksgiving dinner made by tween daughter DJ— a meal that features a still frozen turkey and a demolished “Picture Perfect Pumpkin Pie”.

Rugrats – “The Turkey Who Came to Dinner” (1997). Turkey troubles and football game dominate this Thanksgiving themed episode of this popular children’s cartoon, where, after a shopping oversight, a home cooked turkey dinner at the Pickle’s house may mean home cooked turkey dogs.

Max and Ruby- “Max’s Thanksgiving” (2003). In this holiday episode of this preschooler favorite, bunny siblings Max and Ruby go to their grandma’s house to help make Thanksgiving dinner, but Max snitches a bit too much of grandma’s homemade stuffing before dinner.

JoJo’s Circus- “The Thanksgiving Hip-Hooray Parade” (2005). In this animated Playhouse Disney show, Jo Jo and her friends can’t wait to see all the floats at the Circus Town annual Thanksgiving parade, but bad news means the parade may be unexpectedly canceled.

The Brady Bunch- “The Un-Underground Movie” (1970). This popular sitcom- which still airs in syndication today- features an episode about Greg Brady (Barry Williams) making a home movie about the Pilgrims for his history class. The entire Brady family gets involved in reenacting the first Thanksgiving at Plymouth Rock. This show can be found on TV Land.

A Mouse on the Mayflower (1968). This Rankin-Bass special is a cartoon about a church mouse that is on the Mayflower with the Pilgrims. Tennessee Ernie Ford narrated and sang on this holiday classic. For years this special aired every Thanksgiving on NBC, but in recent years it has been on the air. Still, there’s always a chance it will return to TV. Unbelievably, this special is still not available on DVD, although in the late 1990’s it came out on VHS.
