So what are the chances you would be sitting at a Coney Island restaurant having lunch and in walks Vice-President Joe Biden and Gov. Jennifer Granholm for lunch?
That’s what happened today as patrons sat stunned while watching the couple eat Coney dogs at the famed Detroit eatery, the Lafayette Coney Island.
The pair stopped in for lunch after a morning breakfast fundraiser at Detroit’s MGM Grand Casino Hotel where Biden raised an estimated $318,000 for U.S. Reps. Gary Peters and Mark Schauer to help fund their campaign runs in 2010.
At the fundraiser this morning, Biden gave his views on the struggling economy to a group of 140 Democrat donors.
Biden said while Republicans are betting on the Obama administration to fail, he believes what the White House has instituted to help the economy is working, however Biden said there is a long way to go.
“It’s easy to forget just how horrible things were back in January,” Biden said. “That was an economy built on a bubble. The rules were being made by the cowboys on Wall Street.”
The test to see if the Obama administration has succeeded Biden said will be if the middle-class Americans emerge from the recession in better shape than they were at the beginning.
