Detroit - When residents in the area of Eight Mile and Grandview were awakened by gun shots at about 1 a.m. Saturday morning, police responded by rushing to the scene.
When officers saw a man get out of a car in a parking lot on the 24580 block of Eight Mile, what they discovered was an open duffel bag containing 5 kilos of cocaine worth approximately $2M.
The suspect is a 42-year-old Ypsilanti resident who reportedly smelled of alcohol and marijuana.
This bust follows two other drug busts this week by Detroit police.
It was Monday night when one of the biggest drug money and narcotics was seized at a Detroit motel. The drugs and money amounted to $662,000.
Later in the week, Detroit police seized $150K of cocaine when they arrested two suspects in a raid at the 9300 block of Kentucky, near Oakman Boulevard and Wyoming Street on the city’s west side.
Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans gives his officers the praise for doing what he said is a “tremendous” job.
Evans was appointed to be Detroit’s Police Chief in July, 2009 by Mayor Dave Bing. He is the city’s third police chief in less than a year.
