It always astounds me how much money is spent on weddings.

It's interesting that so many couples are willing to make such a huge investment in their union - but they forget about the one with the biggest potential long term payoff for their relationship!

Premarital counseling, no matter what venue you choose to use (church, couples counselor, workbook), has the potential to provide you and your partner with the knowledge of how to build your marital house on solid ground instead of quicksand. 

Trust me - with all of the couples in my office with many years of distress behind them, I'm well aware that there are a lot of marriages out there with pretty shaky foundations. 

The following are 6 reasons to get premarital counseling:

  • Strengthen Your Communication Skills: Being able to effectively listen, truly hear and validate the other’s position is a skill that isn’t necessarily a “given” for many people. Couples that communicate well can discuss and resolve issues when they arise more effectively.  This is one of the most important aspects of emotional safety between couples.
