European Ford - Will it stop the wheels from falling off?
Ford, one of the big three auto makers, announced that the company had the largest quarterly loss (8.7 Billion) in the company's history! High gas prices are to blame for a 14% sales drop during the month of March. The company excelled at building rugged trucks and large SUVs. That end of the market has had the bottom pulled out like a mountain mudslide after a torrential downpour.
As an auto enthusiast, I have wondered many times why
Ford had not brought their European cars to the United States. Such vehicles have always offered more driving excitement instead of the all to often lackluster cars the company has sold in America.
Ford now wants to sell its European offerings in the United States because the cars are small and fuel efficient. However, the company reports that it will not have the cars ready to sell here until 2010. When gas went to $2.00 per gallon, Ford should have started to bring its European offerings to the states or at least started the process to make the cars meet U.S. regulations.
In September of 05 when Ford should have started bringing its European cars to the sates, its stock price was about $30.00 a share. .Now, it is $2.50 a share! The question is: Will Ford be able to stay
in business until 2010 and avoid the wheels falling off?
