NELLIE WATCH: Needs 23 wins to break the NBA all-time record for coaching wins
BACKCOURT WATCH: Baron Davis is likely going to try to post up either Stephen Curry or Monta Ellis, whoever guards him, but Nelson isn't going to switch lineups anytime soon -- at least not in the backcourt. Curry and Ellis have started all three games.
OF NOTE
-- The Warriors have used three different starting lineups and could go with a fourth in four games if Andris Biedrins isn't able to play. The team's starting center is a game-day decision after straining his back late in Wednesday's win. Biedrins said his availability will be determined after Friday's shootaround, following treatment. Biedrins said he was "day-by-day."
-- If Biedrins can't play, veteran Mikki Moore will start at center for the Warriors. Moore had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 22 minutes on Wednesday as Biedrins got in early foul trouble.
-- Joining Ellis and Curry in the starting lineup will likely be Kelenna Azubuike and Stephen Jackson, both of whom started at forward in Wednesday's win, allowing the Warriors to open the court on the offensive end and take advantage of their multiple players who can score off the dribble.
-- Ellis posted the ninth double-double of his career against Memphis, recording 24 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Ellis did most of his damage on drives to the basket as his mid-range jumper is still off (he's shooting 43.5 percent from floor for the year). "That's what I'd hoped for," Nelson said. "He's playing with a good point guard and that really opens his game up." Ellis has led the team in scoring all three games and is averaging 23 points, 5 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.67 steals per game. He's third in the league in steals, 12th in assists and 14th in scoring.
-- Curry is averaging 11 points, 6.7 assists, 2.33 steals and 3 rebounds per game. He's 9th in the league in steals and 11th in assists while leading all rookies in those categories. Among rookies, he also ranks sixth in scoring, 11th in rebounding and third in field goal percentage at 55.6 percent.
-- Anthony Morrow is coming off a 24-point game in which he shot 10-of-12 overall and 4-for-4 from 3-point range.
-- The Warriors are averaging 41.5 points per game off the bench. The Clippers, meanwhile, have been outscored 118-108 off the bench.
-- The Clippers started the season 0-4 for the fourth time since they moved to L.A. to start the 1984-85 season. They are 0-2 on the road and have been outscored 116-94 in the fourth quarter.
-- Center Chris Kaman is averaging 22.6 points and 10.2 rebounds. He's scored 20 or more four straight games for the first time in his career.
-- Marcus Camby will start at 4 for the Clippers. Camby is 6-11 and will be a handful for 6-8 Jackson. Camby is averaging 11 points and 10.4 rebounds. He had 15 rebounds and 5 blocks in the Clippers' win over the Timberwolves.
-- Baron Davis is averaging 11.4 points and 7.6 assists while shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor (18 of 54) and 26.3 percent on 3-pointers (5 of 19). Asked if he was looking forward to facing his former point guard, Nelson said: "I don't get a kick out of coaching against anybody anymore -- it's all hard work."
-- Forward Rasual Butler made his first start of the year against Minnesota.
-- Guard Eric Gordon is averaging 18.4 points per game.
-- Overall No. 1 pick Blake Griffin is out with a stress fracture in his left knee, which was diagnosed just prior to the season opener and will keep him out a minimum of six weeks.
