Updates:
-- It appears, though nothing will be official until tipoff, that Ronny Turiaf will start the Warriors' season opener at power forward. He practiced the last two days with the starters and players said after Tuesday's practice that Turiaf was starting but coach Don Nelson would not confirm his lineup. The other starters are, presumably, Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson and Andris Biedrins.
-- Nelson begins his 31st season as an NBA coach with a career record of 1,309-1,007. He is 396-387 in his two stints with the Warriors and needs 24 wins to break Lenny Wilkens' record for career coaching victories.
-- The Warriors bring a 6-game losing streak against the Rockets into the season opener, going 0-4 against them last year.
-- The Warriors have opened the season at home each of the past two years and lost both games.
-- The Rockets opened their season with a 96-87 loss to the Blazers in Portland on Tuesday. Aaron Brooks led the team with 19 points while newcomer Trevor Ariza and Kyle Lowry each added 12.
-- The Rockets are playing without Yao Ming, out for the season after surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot, and Tracy McGrady, who is still recovering from microfracture surgery.
-- The NBA regular season opened Tuesday with four games. Half the teams that played Tuesday, including the Rockets, are opening with back-to-backs as the Celtics, Cavaliers and Clippers also return to action tonight. Only the Rockets are playing both games on the road.
-- After tonight, the Warriors' next game will be Friday at Phoenix. Their next home game is Nov. 4 against Memphis.
