Violence must pay ?

I just watched back to back episodes of General Hospital and to say I am sick to my stomach is putting it mildly. GH is known for it's violent story lines. Instead of General Hospital it has become General Murder Inc.

The character Sonny Corinthos is a big mob boss( how you can be a big mob boss in a small upstate NY town is questionable) and his right hand do all the dirty work man, Jason Morgan.

The show revolves around them , their deals, their violence and the women who defend them to the death, literally. I watch GH. I like the characters who are decent and law abiding. I Love the White Knight with slightly tarnished armor, Jasper Jax. I Love the Police Commissioner who has an impossible job, since the criminals always win. I love the Hospital staff though they don't  get much air time. other than patching up criminals and those they hurt,even though the title is General Hospital.The doctors are for the most part talented & caring people who are sometimes asked to look the other way and some do out of loyalty to the mob boss & his minions.

The thing that has me so upset with this show is the violence & the children of the mob boss.

Michael the adopted son of Sonny & his then wife Carly was shot in the head last year, being shot by someone aiming at Sonny. He was then in a coma for a year and then they aged him by 6 or 7 years so when he woke up he was a teenager with a real anger problem. Now this is just one example of the violent. Emmy Award winning writing, go figure. The kids have also been kidnapped and one blown up in it's mothers womb. This is not for kiddies folks, but the kids are targets and are hurt in many ways by this shows writers. Yesterdays show had Michael's mom  Carly being kidnapped by his step mom Claudia, a  member of another  violent  mob family in PC .Carly is going into labor as she is forced to ride with Claudia. They crash and end up in a desolate cabin with Carly in full labor. Jason the enforcer is out looking for them with full intent of killing Claudia when he finds her, but Michael gets there first and picks up an Axe and bashes Claudia's head in. He has become a killer like his "father". It is taken very lightly by Jason and by his mother who tells him  it will be OK, come see your little sister. What? This is the mind set. Killing is OK as sonny tells him," she hurt you, you did good".

I am sorry.  I watch this show and I think it has gone too far. Not just turning a 16 year old into a killer, but the ease by which his family accepts this. I take umbrage with the Daytime Emmy voters for giving this kind of writing an Emmy.

I am a devout soap watcher and want to save our soaps , but this is disturbing to me and I have to write about the good and bad of soaps. This violence constant day after day and again bringing children into it in this way is not good. As Caroline Hinsey of Soap Opera Digest says "It's Only My Opinion".
