"Okay", you think to yourself, "tonight, I'm starting my diet, and I'm kicking it off at Sweet Tomatoes." I have two words for you, my friend: "Fat chance!" Sure, we can satisfy ourselves with plenty of greens, but let's not forget the oranges and yellows, the hot, sweet, gooey melted browns, or the cold, flurry whites. We can keep it healthy, but if healthy's not your thing, you don't have to deprive yourself of what you might find here.
It's a buffet, and health nuts can come back through the line for more foliage if they so desire. If you want to keep it interesting, though, venture out to the soup station. Anyone that frequents Sweet Tomatoes in Altamonte can tell you the Chicken Noodle soup pot more often than not looks over half empty, as does the whole grain bread tray, and they could also tell you why.
Each month brings different themes, and different flavors: Mexican, Greek, Italian, Asian. One of my favorite themes is what I call "lemon month". For a few weeks you'll find Lemon Orzo Soup, Lemon caper pasta, Lemon based salad and dessert. The dessert station is one you might want to avoid if starting that diet. Their Apple cobbler is so good, you will be tempted to scoop some of it into a soup bowl, and pour vanilla soft serve yogurt on top of it. Don't believe me? Check out the menu, or go find out for yourself. You will not be dissapointed. This month is Guest Favorites month so it's a great opportunity to check out some of their most popular dishes.
You will find coupons in every Sunday edition of the Orlando Sentinel, and online, look for those "buy one get one free" offers.
There is something in Sweet Tomatoes for everyone. Don't let the green scare you away.
