The Democratic Party has some real knuckleheads in it, complete whack jobs that would have no business being city council members let alone national politicians.  That said, there are a couple Republican Party members that are making those Democrats look like Einsteins by comparison.

Case in point: Michele Bachman and her "dog on a bone" like obsession with the incorrect idea that there are forces in the United States ready to abandon the dollar as our native currency.   Now she's teamed up with FOX News Henny Penny (aka Glenn Beck) and they worked themselves into a lather over an imagined international cabal that plans to replace native currencies with a global currency.

Here's audio of the Bachman/Beck exchange:

You know, when everyone calls you a kook, maybe you should wonder if you are, in fact, a kook.

UPDATE:  This global currency meme appears to now be a tactic from the GOP.  From Think Progress:

UPDATE  Today on Glenn Beck's radio show, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) fearmongered as well, saying, "China and maybe Geithner [are] even agreeing some new world currency."

UPDATE   Karl Rove, appearing on the Sean Hannity radio show, also discussed an "international currency" that the Chinese would have a "significant role in organizing."

It's either terribly stupid or grossly despicable to turn this thing into some means of scaring folks about an impending new world order.  Isn't there a single Republican with the balls to tell them they're wrong?  Opinion is one thing, but doesn't the Republican Party even care about getting the facts right?
