- It has been a long time since I remember hearing anything positive about America when I talk to my friends in Ireland. However when I mention Senator Obama, the talk is all positive with many people stating: "I hope they elect him..."
- I think there is going to be a very marked difference between Obamas visit and Bushs last trip here. Where Bush has been met with protests, I think Obama will be warmly welcomed.
I too hope they elect Obama. I dont think many Americans realise how the perception of the US will change if they do elect him. Nor the fact that by electing a democrat it signals to the world a move from the aggressive, gung ho foreign policy poorly implemented by the Bush administration to one that may be far more conciliatory and an administration which can recognise the mistakes the US has made and make some way towards repairing the damage. One can at least hope. :)
I have a sense we Americans will catch a glimpse later this week of how an Obama presidency would dramatically change the worlds perception of the U.S.
