Clinton Looks For Help With Campaign Debt

June 6, 10:02 AM

After the big, secret meeting last night between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, details are emerging Mrs. Clinton may be looking for some help retiring her aborted presidential campaign debt.  From the Associate Press:
Clinton will likely seek help from Obama in retiring her massive campaign debt, which has swollen to more than $30 million, including $11 million she lent the effort, advisers said Thursday.
The writing had been on the wall for many weeks: the odds for Senator Clinton becoming the Democratic Party presidential nominee had significantly decreased by the end of February.  Most of her donors realized it as well; contributions to the campaign began to dwindle and she was forced to contribute her own money to her fledgling campaign to beat Obama to the nomination.

There's some irony that Senator Clinton would now look to the Obama campaign for relief of it's debt.

Obviously, candidates can choose to run as long as they want.  But most have the good sense to continually assess their chance of success and not waste their contributors money on vanity driven, low probability political runs.
