Oh No, She Went There?

May 8, 5:17 PM

Hillary Clinton, interviewed by USA Today, promised to continue her quixotic primary fight for the Democratic party nomination.  Senator Clinton maintains she appeals to a wider cross-section of Democratic voters than does Obama and, therefore, asserts she is the stronger nominee to run against John McCain in the general election.

And then she dropped this little bombshell:

"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

"There's a pattern emerging here," she said.

There sure is.  The pattern that's emerging is yet another ugly attempt by Mrs. Clinton and her campaign to race bait.  Reminding voters her support lies with all those "white Americans" is a not very subtle attempt to remind nervous whites that that Barack Obama fellow is black and any concerns they have (wink, wink) can be addressed by voting for her.

Shouldn't someone tell Mrs. Clinton this kind of conduct is certainly offensive to African Americans, but offends the rest of us as well?
