Carl Edwards came into Sunday's Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway with one goal in mind- winning. After all, with only three races to go, he was 10th in points with any shot of a championship pretty much down the drain.
Texas looked to be a place where Edwards would finally be able to claim his first Sprint Cup win of 2009. H came into this weekend with three previous Sprint Cup victories at Texas under his belt, and he was the winner of last year's Dickies 500.
Edwards' chance at a win on Sunday was dashed when Juan Montoya got loose, causing an accident that collected Edwards, among others.
"I might win the race home," Edwards said of the premature end to his run.
As a result of his day being ended early, he wound up with a 39th-place finish. He's now 11th in points, 440 points out of first with two races remaining.
"That's just racing," Edwards said.
