Baja Ha-Ha Grand Poobah and Latitude 38 Publisher Richard Spindler and Doña de Mallorca are requesting that anyone residing in the San Francisco Bay area and planning to drive or fly to meet the fleet in Cabo, volunteer to help carry bundles of magazines. Visit 'Lectronic Latitude for further information. (The Baja Ha-Ha is the annual sailboat rally during which boaters transit from San Diego to Los Cabos, Mexico.)
Colleen from the Latitude 38 Mill Valley office can arrange for volunteers to pick up books or have them delivered. Volunteers are requested to email her as soon as possible at colleen@latitude38.com. The bundles will weigh seven pounds and measure 8" x 10.25" x 4" and will be ready for pickup on October 30th.
Volunteers will be richly rewarded in Cabo "with some official 'swag' and a couple of luscious margaritas." (And who couldn't use some good swag these days, after all?)
This author and her husband, Dick Drechsler, who is head of Sail Through Cancer Foundation and author of the true-life adventure, Manning Up In Alaska, will be joining the group as it leaves San Diego on October 26.
Taking a break from preparing for the estimated ten-day journey, Dick addressed a group of sailors belonging to Catalinas of Santa Monica Bay Fleet #1 on October 20th. During his talk he discussed his plans for upcoming travel, beginning with the Baja Ha-Ha.
Richard Spindler and the team at Latitude 38 have been strong supporters of Dick's efforts by writing several articles about his inspirational story. (Manning Up In Alaska tells about Dick's experiences not only on the journey to Glacier Bay, but how cruising helped him overcome the after effects of cancer treatment, which had left him without the ability to eat.) Their support contributed to his establishing the Sail Through Cancer Foundation, completing the book and joining the Ha-Ha.
