I'm reporting to you from our anchorage in Two Harbors at the Isthmus, Catalina Island, California. The crowd of adults flocking to this annual drink-fest is young, for the most part, and ready to hoot and holler! Every so often, a neighbor fires off a cannon, creating a chain reaction of shouts and shrieks.

Catalina Island's Two Harbors is the place for Buccaneer Days the first Saturday of October. If you like the sound of cannons thundering on the high seas and fancy you’d have walked on the wild side if you’d lived back in the 1800s, then this is the place for you!

Here are the requirements:

Pirate Provisions

• A boat with a pirate flag
• Pirate wardrobe (the more all- out, the better)
• On-board beverages for hosting Pirate parties.

Sailboats and powerboats come from as far south as San Diego and north from Santa Barbara. Everyone dresses in bandanas and eye patches and walks with a swagger. Speaking “Pirate Lingo” is optional, but always appreciated. Arrrrgh.

The only landlubber accommodations in remote Two Harbors are a 12-room B&B and a campground. Commonly, bands of young rogues are seen raiding fellow pirates for cocktails and are more likely to brandish a bottle of rum than a sword. The excitement begins long before the big October 3rd event. Saturday is when the big bash ensues, complete with a live band, barkeepers stationed throughout the settlement and a dinghy-dock

Videos from previous years show dozens of beautiful girls and exuberant-looking youths having a swashbuckling good time.
