Cruisers going to Turtle Bay with the Baja Ha-Ha or on their own are encouraged to pack away a few school supplies to donate on behalf of the local children. According to Baja Ha-Ha's team at 'Lectronic Lattitude, Steve and Edie Hollan of the Yorba Linda-based Irwin 37 Andalucia report on their blog that Hurricane Jimenez devastated many of the schools in Bahia Tortugas. The couple has received a wish list from the mayor’s wife, Guillermina Jimenez, who will distribute donations brought down by boaters during the annual trek from points north. (Click here to view list of needed supplies.)
Here are a few ideas gleaned from their list:

  • Electronics – while these items are a bit hefty for a boat, if there’s any way to lug a working computer, printer, television or DVD player along, they would be very much appreciated.
  • Extra office equipment – does anyone have any supplies in the back storeroom of an office? The list includes printer cartridges (27/28 HP), scissors, binders, felt tip markers, Scotch tape, stapler and staples, manila folders (letter and legal), brass pins, masking tape and printer paper (letter and legal).
  • Kindergarten supplies – puzzles with big pieces, construction paper, learning games (in Spanish if possible), fat crayons and pencils.
  • Elementary school supplies – Lined paper pads, pencils, paper, rolls of butcher paper, rolls of drawing paper, crayons, notebooks, whiteboard markers, colored and plain poster paper and musical instruments.

Donations can be brought to the beach party in Turtle Bay on Friday, October 30. Other boaters may drop off donations at the 'Donaciones para Las Escuelas de Bahia Tortugas' tent."
