Mother's Day is THIS Sunday

If you haven't noticed all the ads on TV, radio and in print, Mother's Day is Sunday. Including today, that means you have four days to figure out what you're going to do to thank your mother. This does not mean you have to buy a gift, though, when in doubt, gifts are always a great idea. I believe there are many women who would prefer a thoughtful gesture instead of a material gift, especially one that was pre-packaged for the day.

I wrote a previous post about gift suggestions, one of which was for the spouse or partner to be more involved in the children's lives without being prompted. The wiser I become, the less I am concerned about things and the more I am interested in experiences. I would prefer to spend a fun day on the town with my daughter and my husband (and his undivided attention) than to receive a bottle of perfume or box of chocolates. Again, I am not against those types of gifts. I certainly like having nice things. But, I don't lack possessions.

With the world the way it is and two-income families functioning the way they do, what many of us are missing is balance in our lives. I think we probably need to be reminded how to have genuine fun and be silly and live those moments that will reside in everyone's memory banks. Perfume and chocolate don't last. It's the shared  experiences that have longevity.
