That's right: Lance Mackey won his third Iditarod in a row. While that's not quite a record, he does join a very small club of "three-peaters" including the much-revered and adored Susan Butcher.
Sebastian Schnuelle was deprived of his shot at the now-infamous mushing double crown when he finished second, so Lance Mackey remains the only person to date who's been able to pull off the remarkable feat of winning both the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod--both 1,000+ mile sled dog races less than a month apart--in the same year.
John Baker rounded out the early finishers by coming in third, his teneth top-10 finish in the Iditarod.
Hugh Neff, an early challenger in this year's Iditarod and second-place finisher in the 2009 Yukon Quest by just four minutes, is currently running in 15th place.
