The search for the best wine shops in New Jersey is no easy task. It's a time consuming, laborious task but it must be done. Thank God it's the weekend and once again we can take some time to peruse the isles of our favorite wine shops and grab some goodies we wouldnt mind exploring.
But with time as a commodity, our budgets quickly disappearing and the economic recovery in question we need to be smart when it comes to bottle shopping. The search for the perfect bottle is no easy quest and finding that undiscovered gem may take some time. So many wines. So little time.
So, what constitutes a great wine shop in New Jersey? Just like the stock market it’s all about buying some great wines at great prices. Knowledgeable staff, a great selection of wine including hard to find treasures and periodic wine sales certainly helps. In store tastings is an added extra bonus as well as an internet presence e.g. twitter and website.
So ladies and gentlemen start your engines. Below are the Blue Ribbon winners of New Jersey:
Wine Library, Springfield, NJ. The most extensive offerings of wine and gourmet cheeses in New Jersey. The hype is real and the selection of wines is phenomenal. The staff is excitedly friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are fair because of the volume. A big internet presence with Wine Library TV at the forefront. Saturday and Sunday wine tastings of featured wines. If you’re into wine plan on spending at least an hour wine shopping. Gary Vayernerchuck is re-inventing the wine world.
Gary’s Wine and Marketplace Another behemoth of New Jersey. Great selection of wines from all over the world. Great prices, knowledgeable staff, online wine store and in house wine tasting events. Several locations; Madison, Bernardsville and Wayne.
Joe Canal’s Liquor. Several locations throughout New Jersey with a nice selection of wine. Somewhat knowledgeable staff and in-house tasting events. Fair prices.
Princeton Corkscrew. Smaller boutique wine shop located in the heart of Princeton specializing in hard to find wines from around the globe but specializing in French wines. Staff is knowledgeable. Very interesting bottles with fair prices. In-house wine tasting events. You will not find any mass produced wines here. No two buck chuck here as well.
Honorable Mention
Glendale Liquors. An undiscovered gem in Kendall Park. Neighborhood liquor store with a nice wine collection, with fairly knowledgeable staff. Their prices are great, well below others. You might discover your gem here.
So there you have it. Once you find your gems, stock up your cellar and pour a glass for me.
