Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava announced on Saturday that she was dropping out of Tuesday’s special election to fill the empty congressional seat representing the NY-23rd. Scozzafava sighted her recent poll numbers which had her at double-digit deficits to both opponents Democrat Bill Owens and Conservative Party Doug Hoffman. She also acknowledged that she had felt some pressure from her supporters to step down, perhaps because both the Siena Research and Daily Kos polls released for October 26 – 28, showed that Democrat Bill Owens had crept over Doug Hoffman, even if by only a point.
Scozzafava is a moderate with close union ties and more liberal social views, and it was primarily those social viewpoints that didn’t allow her to pass the Conservative litmus test, especially her pro-choice abortion stance and a radically liberal view on gay marriage which means she has made the mistake of admitting she is for it. Scozzafava did not endorse either remaining candidate and left it up to her former supporters to decide. Scozzafava supporters have scattered to both sides of the race as you might expect in a normal race, however this race is not a normal race.
Sarah Palin celebrated enthusiastically on her Facebook page:
I want to personally thank Republican Dede Scozzafava for acting so selflessly today in the NY District 23 race. Now it's time to cross the finish line with Doug Hoffman so that he can get to work for District 23 and the rest of America."
With Congress poised to overhaul one-sixth of our economy with so-called health care “reform” (which is really a government takeover of health care) and with plans to enact a cap-and-tax bill just as our economy struggles to recover, Doug Hoffman will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington.
We need candidates like Doug now more than ever. In these final days of the campaign, it's vital that Doug continue to receive the enthusiastic support of those who want to bring common sense to Washington. Let’s help make it happen! You can help Doug by visiting his official website today and offering your support."
Many elected Republican Party leaders have also gladly abandoned their own party and candidate and jumped onto the Conservative Party’s Doug Hoffman bandwagon. And though Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele, stopped short of shouting for joy over his own party’s candidate dropping out of the race, on camera at least, he did thank her for doing so, and then immediately pledged his party’s full support and money for the last three days of the campaign, remember, not to the Republican candidate, to the Conservative Party’s candidate, the Republican Party's former opponent.
Michael Steele, RNC Chairman:
This selfless act of releasing her supporters provides voters with the opportunity to unite around a candidate who shares Republican principles and will serve the interests of his constituents in Congress by standing in opposition to the liberal policies of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi.
Effective immediately, the RNC will endorse and support the conservative candidate in the race, Doug Hoffman. Doug’s campaign will receive the financial backing of the RNC, and get-out-the-vote efforts to defeat Bill Owens on Tuesday.I appreciate the hard work Dede put into her campaign, and for understanding the political reality of this race. By releasing her supporters she has gracefully placed the Party before her own self interest, and for this she deserves enormous credit and respect.
Thanks to the Scozzafava bashing by the moral minority's armed guards of moral purity, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Michelle Malkin, and now with the act of supporting the opposing candidate of another party, RNC Chairman Michael Steele, he has in effect pronounced the death of the Republican Party, the GOP, the Grand Old Party that for more than a century has collectively represented the right-side, conservative base of this country, and he has now allowed the party to ideologically splinter into two distinct parties with irreconcilable differences. This campaign proves that from now on, moderate Republicans and Neo-Cons seeking office who do not live up to the high moral standards, social standards, ethnic standards, and religious standards of the ultra-right Conservatives will be fought as harshly as any Democrat.
The purge has begun, and over the next several election cycles, we will see the emergence of a new America, with a new two or three-party political make-up. The Conservatives loudly claim that they want to take their country back, and their grassroots constituents have made it clear that they are willing to do it even if it requires watering the tree of liberty a reference to anarchist violence. Conservatives are extreme in their political and social agenda, anti-liberal, anti-moderate, anti-Democrat, anti-Obama, anti-celebrity, anti-poor, anti-sick, anti-ethnic, anti-immigration, anti-Latino, anti-tax, anti-government, anti-gun-control, anti-global-everything including warming and economy, anti-UN, anti-atheist, anti-Darwinist, anti-every-religion-except-fundamentalist-evangelical-Christianity, anti-fun, anti-freedom-of-expression, anti-gay, anti-sexual-expression-of-any-kind, anti-premarital-sex, anti-contraception, and of course the crown jewel in their tiara of hate and exclusionism, the anti-gender stance of anti-abortion.
The do have a few things they are extremely for: old money, new money, tax-shelters, church and not-for-profit tax status, an almost totalitarian view of police and law and order with a bizarre twist of gun-toting anarchism thrown in just to keep everybody confused, they are very big on having plenty of prisons, privately owned, they are for guns of all shapes and sizes and many Conservative constituents would just as soon put a bullet in something than debate the issue of gun control, they are for prayer in our schools and prefer private-tax-exempt faith-based schools over public schools, and finally, more than anything else, they are extremely anti-abortion. Many of their constituents and ideological leaders are so extreme, that they either publicly or privately condone the killing a doctor who performs legal abortions on the grounds that they are saving unborn babies. Being “anti-abortion”, or the more politically correct, “Pro-Life” is the primary litmus test of the many tests of conservatism that any “New Conservatives” will have to be submitted if they want to represent the Conservative constituency. A candidate hopeful to be endorsed by the New Conservatives of the Conservative Party, cannot and shall not be pro-choice, or said candidate of the Devil shall feel the wrath of judgment by the self-proclaimed messiah’s of the conservative movement Rush the Father, Glenn the Son, and Sarah, the Immaculate Conception.
Yesterday might have been just another day, in the normally ignored chronicle of a locally contended political contest. But it will instead go down in history as the day that marked the official beginning of the death of the Republican Party as we know it.
The patient’s cosmetic flaw of moderate ideology was addressed by the keepers of the Far-Right and removed by the skillful hands of the plastic-surgeon, Ultra-Conservatism. Though initially weakened by the surgery, the conservative doctors are confident that the patient will recover and gain back a hundred percent of her strength, and that when the bandages are finally removed, they will reveal a more beautiful and righteous candidate that no one in their right mind, not possessed by Satan, could possibly resist.
No yesterday was not just another day of cosmetic and political tweaking, yesterday was epic and ground-shaking. Saturday, October 31st, 2009, the Devil’s day, Halloween Day, was a win on the side of the righteous, a win on the side of Conservatism. Yesterday was the second coming of the four horsemen of the apocalypse of the Republican Party, and with over-powering effect, the four horsemen of Ultra-Conservatism: Ignorance, Fear, Hate, and Exclusion, came swooping down out of the heavens and lopped-off the head of Moderation. The GOP has been left by itself to slowly bleed to death.
